  • Local Find: Cashew Food!

    Cashew coffee and cake
Palawan is known for being the top manufacturer of cashew goodies and Isla Casoy de Palawan, owned by the Saw brothers, banked on this with a new casoy-themed restaurant and souvenir shop. The restaurant is in Mercado de San Miguel and has been attracting the attention for its quirky and very local produce.

The restaurant boasts of a cashew-oriented menu and numerous souvenir goodies tested by the Food and Drugs Administration. The cashew prunes and the cashew butter (their version of the peanut butter) has been awarded by the science and technology department as good innovations for the year.

I sampled the brewed coffee with cashew and it totally blew me away! The cashew mellows down the taste of coffee and the texture resembles the hot chocolate made of tablea. I love love love it. The cashew creamer can be bought at the restaurant too.

And the best part? The restaurant opens as early as 6 a.m.--just in time for breakfast! [Note: Restaurants seldom open early in Puerto Princesa. For breakfast, you either have to eat at the local eateries or be at the mercy of your hotel's restaurant.]

Also, if you're in need of a place to buy last-minute pasalubong and has no time to scourge the nearby Tiangge, Isla Casoy offers a box filled with nine packs of their different cashew products. A bargain at P250 each.

Getting there: Isla Casoy de Palawan is in Mercado de San Miguel. - 3/12/12
