  • They Need Our Help

Before it happened, Cebu has a massive campaign against cervical cancer with the tagline: "Think Pink". But for the mean time, let's think of helping out this province after the disaster.

Aside from our home province, my parents have developed an affinity to these three provinces: Davao (where they plan to retire), Surigao (because of its reclusive nature) and just recently, Bohol.

I, on the other hand, have likewise fallen in love with Davao and Surigao, as well as Palawan and Cebu. I’ve never been to Bohol but I’ve visited Cebu a couple of times; roughly five to six for the last three years. The most recent was a day before the October 15 quake.

Bringing once-glorious edifices to the ground, the 7.2 magnitude earthquake killed a hundred and left thousands homeless in Central Visayas. I do not have to reiterate the impact of the quake—the airwaves and the social media world are bombarded with updates. And so, a few days and numerous heartbreaks after, Cebu and Bohol are still in need of donations in cash or kind.

My college professor re-posted this message in FB:

The University of Cebu is now accepting donations in any form for the victims of the Oct. 15 earthquake. Please deliver your donations/relief goods to University of Cebu Banilad campus. For cash donations from abroad or other parts of the country, please send your money to BDO Ayala (Cebu City) branch. Account name is University of Cebu, peso account no. is 2420075958. For inquiries, you may also call UC Banilad +6332.233.8888. This relief effort is in coordination with the DSWD, Sun.Star Cebu & the Metro Cebu Uptown Jaycees. Thank you for your immediate response & magnanimous spirit. May God bless & protect us all!
Rappler has also compiled a list of possible avenues for lending a hand. GMA is accepting donations too, through the Kapuso Foundation.

If you feel like helping, don’t hesitate to do so. I’m sure that if one person sacrifices a Starbucks latte for a day and donate the money for this cause… Our combined efforts can at least help a community in these areas. – 10/18/2013
