  • Emos at Eiga Sai

The Emos had a get-together (minus Elayne) for this year's Eiga Sai, a Japanese Film Festival in Shangri-la Mall. The festival is very popular since there is a large followers of Japanese culture in the Philippines.

This was my first Eigasai, as I failed to skip work during the last two festivals. Ian told me that during her first visit, there were even cosplayers. How I'd love to have taken photos of that. In 2008, Ian watched Cascading White Threads, a tragic black and white film set in pre-War Japan. (Read Ian's review here.)

Since we're poor this year, we ate at the food court. Before we met up for this photo, Nica and I saw Fourteen, a film on bullying in Japan. It received awards in the Rotterdam Festival and had been acknowledged for its contents by various groups.

    Nica
This time, we watched How to Become Myself, a shoujo coming-of-age film starring Riko Narumi. I know Riko because she's also starring in a TV drama next year with Ayaka's Mikazuki as the main theme of the drama.

    Chesca
This is one of the few instances that Chesca can accompany us to its a special day for the Emos. Ding is still in Nueva Ecija and is currently busy with work.

We also plan to watch Battery: Future in Our Hands because the lead characters are like Naruto and Sasuke of Naruto. Unlike How to Become Myself, Battery caters to a shonen audience as the story revolves around baseball.

After watching, we hang-out in the al fresco area and did some picture-taking. Unfortunately, Chesca's digital camera was already low on battery, as well as Nica's phone. Ophelia, on the other hand, has no flash so the photos are too dark. Until our next film session! :D

Update as of August 20: My reviews on the Eiga Sai has finally been published online! Read: Fourteen, How to Become Myself, and Battery: Future in Our Hands.
